A Question About Gears Of War

I am not a fan of shooters like COD and Halo I played those games and it was not my cup of tea but Gears of War looks more like an arcade shooter and looks pretty fun but my problem with all shooters is that they focus more on the multiplayer aspect rather than the solo campaign. I don't have Xbox Live Gold because I barely have time to play games and the last year subscription I purchased I barely had time to go online.

The reason I started this topic is because I am intrested in buying the gears of war triple pack (Gears 1, Gears 2 and all the DLC for Gears 2) but I wanted to know how good are the games if your not going online? I heard the first Gears of War was short but the second can keep you busy for a while.

Re: A Question About Gears Of War

You might get a lot of black and white from this but from my own personal experience I absolutely loved both Gears 1 and 2. I played Gears 2 alot with 7th Number back in the day and I think you'll find a great experience both online and off for both titles. The campaigns in both titles are fantastic with Gears 2 having more of an emotional investment in it featuring the finding of Dom's wife and Fenix looking for his father the graphics are great coupled with precise controls and alot of action instilled moments to get your heart racing.

Gears 2 was built more for a multiplayer experience but it shouldn't intimidate you from picking it up as well (especially if your going for the triple package game deal you mentioned) and I need to crucially tell you that if you ever do decide to jump online with Gears 2 be prepared to face some hardcore competition. It boast a beasty and meaty experience even offering an endurance gauntlet run of a mode called "Horde" mode that puts you and 3 friends against a near endless assault of enemies until you run out of lives it's a multiplayer mode but with a coop experience that takes the competition aspect out and just leaves a fun experience with friends you'll have to try that mode. So if team deathmatch isn't your thing Horde and coop campaign will be fun when you find time for multiplayer.

Anyways I don't know what else to say the games are great and if anyone tells you of shoddy lag almost every gripe has been fixed to this point with a bevy of patches. Don't disservice yourself pick these games up amazing, amazing experiences even for your single player hunt.

Re: A Question About Gears Of War

The Gears of War story-telling is absolutely amazing. Believe me, I didn't think I'd like Gears 1 when I first picked it up but I really enjoyed it. The Campaign was phenomenal! Multiplayer was brilliant too. I picked up the highly anticipated Gears of War 2 at the midnight release. The Campaign for Gears 2 wasn't as good as the first, but it was still great. The ending to Gears 2 wasn't great. The Multiplayer was a bit shit too.

The problem Epic Games are trying to resolve is the multiplayer because it was so damn shit in Gears 2. That's all really. You won't be disappointed by Gears 3. Think of Multiplayer as a bonus to an already great game.

    It's actually 4, but who's counting, eh?

In any case Mast, I'd say my opinion pretty much echoes Punisher's. Personally, I'm alot like you in not being a fan of COD and Halo. I dislike FPSes. I tried to accept them but it's been tough. I played Modern warfare 2 and Black Ops because I wanted to experience the campaign, but after that was done I dropped it like a bad habit. GoW is a game I originally wrote off and picked up the second game simply to build my library a bit. Turned out I ended up loving the game and it's one that I play the most. Like it's been said, the campaign for both games are pretty good, and if I could use 4 bots in Horde Mode I wouldn't need to play it online. Horde is all I play really but, seeing as that is indeed a multiplayer mode (although you can play all of the multiplayer modes offline), I'm not sure if that's something you're looking for.

All in all, anybody who likes to shoot things and owns a 360 should seriously own Gears, the entire trilogy if possible. It's kinda like how I [felt] about the Mass Effect series because both are important pieces in gaming history.

Re: A Question About Gears Of War

Picked up the game today and I will be playing it tomorrow or the day after I just have one question, should I start the game on casual or hardcoe? I don't want to just dominate the game on my first try but I also don't want to get destroyed over and over again on my first try since this will be the first FPS game I have owned. I heard that there is no major difference between casual and hardcore and other people are saying its like day and night when it comes to A.I. I am not going to touch insane mode anytime soon, so should I start the game on casual or hardcore?

Re: A Question About Gears Of War

I was in the same boat somewhat as far as FPS go, except I just prefer shooters in third person, I just like to be able to see my character on the screen which is why I fell in love with Gears. As far as casual or hardcore, I originally started out with casual and played for about an hour or so then started a new game on hardcore and really didn't notice too much of a difference. Maybe it's more noticeable the more you progress but i've been able to go through on hardcore without too bad of a hiccup, given it does get difficult. But, with the over-saturation of FPS today, Gears is fantastic refreshment as far as shooters go, and can't wait for Gears 3.

Re: A Question About Gears Of War

Gears 2 is one of the very few games i wanted to replay the minute i beat it. So yeah gears 2 is worth buying it for. Gears 1 is really good too. I think gears is more about single player than it is MP. I know halo is more about MP than single player. Halo single player is really boring and bland to me. But gears is interesting, funny, badass, and really fun to play. Personally i play on an easier setting because id rather play the game and follow the story than get stuck on one area for a half an hour. I always replay it though on harder settings. I beat gears 1 and 2 on insane, i think the first game is harder than the 2nd though.

Re: A Question About Gears Of War

After playing Gears of War for over 9 hours straight I am officially hooked on the series. I am playing campaign on casual and its still a hard game and I died many times but I enjoyed every minute of it. The campaign is fantastic and Its a lot longer than I thought it would be. Thanks to everyones reply to this thread that convinced me to pick this up and I am not dissapointed a bit. I can't wait to finish the campaign so I can play Gears of War 2.
