I'm sorry, but I've got to say this.

I've played well over twenty bouts against the same people and I'm still losing (Yes, even on CPU Level 1.). The animations look sloppy (But that's probably inevitable because of the use of Street-Fighter like Sprites in Two-Dimensional Form.), the buttons/controller set-up is fucking flawed like a motherfucker. The strikes have 0.5-out-10 chances of connecting and when they do, they look shitty as fuck! That's a waste of what is probably really up there in the quantity department of strikes. I didn't expect to get this game the first day, but it's pissing me off to the point of no return, already. I wanted so much to like this game. I really did. But it seems impossible. As far as I'm concerned thus far, Day of Reckoning II>>>>>>>>Fire Pro Wrestling Returns

And no, Day of Reckoning II wasn't a quick pick-up-and-play video game for me. It was quite hard at first. But at least it was fun, even when I was getting my ass beat! With Fire Pro Wrestling, you have to play the race to the finish grappling game. What kind of fucked up system of gameplay is that? I'm sorry, but I'm loathing it right about now.

Slow down and give it time. Play with a dead opponent and get used to the controls.

    All I'm gonna say.

You mean a second controller, but hands-free?

    Yes, this.

Also, I hope you're not trying to use moves with the circle and X button in the early goings of a match. If you're button-mashing, that's the worse thing you can possibly do.

I know I'm not supposed to button-mash. But this whole race-to-press-the-button post tie-up engine of gameplay varies with speed. They tell you to press it at the right time which does not cover anything helpful on my behalf. Maybe if this wasn't that type of game and you instead got to do your own separate tie-up by pressing an actual button. Plus, the strikes just don't want to connect. I'm really convinced that from a 3-D point-of-view, Spike could have done a much better job. Hell, at least on Street Fighter, the punches and kicks actually connect. You can't say that about FPR, though. And that running button is stupid as well. I don't like that you run to a random corner/set of rapes depending on what part of the D-Pad according the way you're pressing it.

You're making it sound harder than it actually is - I was able to get it down within 30 minutes of playing. How about trying not to actually race to performing the moves when you initial a grapple? Just be natural with it, it's not that hard. It'll come to you if you actually let it.

As far as the strikes go, comparing it to Street Fighter really doesn't work. In Street Fighter, there are only a certain number of planes in the 2D where strikes will actually connect, which is usually 2-3 (the bottom, middle and top of the screen). There are a multitude of X-Y planes in Fire Pro, so you have to make sure that you're within the right plane to nail a strike. Really, just by looking at the positioning of the characters on screen, that really isn't difficult, at all. But I guess it's something you have to get used to. Same thing with the running moves, as well.

As far as 3D goes, Spike should never move to 3D again. They tried it once, the result wasn't that good.

I already know that this game isn't for everybody. But with a game as complex as this, it takes some time to actually "get it." The main purpose of Fire Pro is to put on great matches, whether it's for somebody else or your own amusement. I've lost a good number of matches since I've had the game, but it didn't matter if I put on a helluva match with my opponent. I've had matches that have lasted the entire 60-minute in-game time limit - something I can hardly say for any other wrestling game (sans No Mercy). Seriously, once you get the basics and mechanics down, the sky's the limit. One of the most open-ended wrestling games in years.

So what if you have to diagonally to perform your running moves? The game's in a different league. Just give it some time and more play. Try not to point out all the differences you see, which is what you seem to be doing. And the comparisons to Street Fighter need to stop, too - this is a grappling game, after all. Just because they involve sprites doesn't mean that the mechanics have to be the same.

    Classic.

Alright, I get what you're saying. I don't know how I'm supposed to feel about you saying that you learned it all in only thirty minutes, though. First of all, what CPU Level do you work at?

At the moment, I can work at level 6 and have a sporting chance. 7 or above tend to get kinda one-sided.

I started the game at level 1 and at least got the basic stuff down in about 30 minutes. Of course, there's a ton more to learn once you get the basics down, since the moves and situations are almost endless. Hell, I'm still learning stuff to this very day.

    Classic.

I haven't played this in months, I've mastered level 10 and find it a bit easy for me. I usually sim if I pop this in. Working a japanese style match is pretty natural to me since I've been watching Puro for over 6 years.

Now if we could get a KOC II to be ported over here.

I don't get the whole mention of Puroreso as if it should have an effect on gameplay. I can see how the matches would go different in Puroreso. But I don't see that affecting the gameplay mechanical engine on a wrestling video game.

It does when you think about it. In the SmackDown! games, you can hit a hard and heavy grapple at any moment in a match. But since Puroseru is known for it's progression to slow start to heavy finish, the mechanicals have to reflect that. That's why if you try to hit a heavy move with the circle button in the early goings of a match, it gets reversed instantly. You gotta start from the ground up.

Well, I definitely see what you're saying from that perspective. I'll try to play it some more. Maybe give it a few days or so before I know the door off its hinges, so to speak.

If I may add my two cents, I'm a Fire Pro fan through and through. However, if you really can't get into the game, then you don't need to force yourself to. We all have our different tastes, after all.

Re: I'm sorry, but I've got to say this.

It sounds like you're making things harder than they need to be, Gooey. There is no "race" to completing a grapple. There is a very specific window of timing that needs to be met. It's a matter of accuracy rather than speed. The same is the case for the strikes. I'm still pretty bad with striking, but I line up horizontally before throwing, which decreases my whiff percentage. Accuracy. And I'm having a lot of fun. Though admittedly, I'm simming more than playing just recently.

As for other import games, I've only played King of Colosseum 2, and I really love it. The visuals aren't great, but the skill required to be able to play the game well, coupled with the depth of the movesets and the Powerball feature make it a really awesome game to play. Highly recommended.

Re: I'm sorry, but I've got to say this.

Okay. I've played for about six hours straight, today. I haven't played it since the week I got it. I decided to give Level 5 a chance: BIG MISTAKE!!!! I swear that I when I tell I was ready to break something because of this shit, I mean it! It pissed me off to no end.

And I get that this is supposed to be the most strategically-demanding wrestling video game in the whole world, but can someone tell me just why when I press the buttons to reverse a maneuver that they don't reverse. Like if I have my full attention on countering, then I never get the job done. I'm so sick and tired of this accuracy bullshit that my head is about to blow off! I'm steaming right about now, as you can tell. Once again, I really want to like this game. BUT MAN!!!! It's too fucking frustrating!

I mean, it's really neat when I see the chain-wrestling aspect of the game through technically-inclined wrestlers battling it out because I see something new almost every time I play. But besides the diverse and broad/extensive covers of different styles all in this one, big melting pot, I'm not feeling the whole idea of getting your ass kicked to no end. I've won only about three out of what had to be over fifty matches. So yeah.

There's nothing fun about getting your ass kicked and feeling helpless in the process. I've even read the instruction booklet, but as far as countering is concerned (As well as the fucked up timing system, which gets me every time. I could swear on everything I love that the opponent's timing couldn't have been any better than mine a numerous amount of times.), I'm at a fucking lost! Deepest systematic circuitry we call wrestling gameplay, it may be. And like I said, I really do find a lot of the new discoveries neat. But I'm so frustrated I don't know what to do.
